“The objects are to safeguard, protect and
preserve
the good health both mental and physical of children
and parents of
children to
prevent cruelty or maltreatment of children, to relieve sickness,
poverty and
need amongst children and parents of children, to promote the education
of the
public in better
standards of childcare.” Right from the Start Constitution, May 1996
Aims:
Facilitate
empowerment of the parents and carers of children aged 0-13
Raise
parents/carer’s self esteem and increase motivation
Provide
education and training sessions in early years development and
parenting skills
to parents/carers/professionals
Offer
early intervention and preventative work to improve
parents/carers/children’s
emotional and physical health and safety
Work
collaboratively with clients/professional/voluntary agencies
Recruit,
train and support parents and carers who volunteer to make home visits
to
parents with children 0-13 years of age
Offer
community parent/carer support groups facilitated by staff and
volunteers
Develop
and maintain materials including handouts, laminated accident
prevention
sheets, play resource boxes, treasure baskets, and story sacks, which
can be
used by staff and volunteers to stimulate healthy living, play and
speech and
language development
Support
breastfeeding and neo-natal support initiatives in partnership with NHS
Health
Visitors and Midwives
Support
families with child protection issues in partnership with Social
Services and
Health Visitors
Provide
group training or links to training, in aspects of early years
development, for
parents/carers/professionals, which include basic skills, managing
behaviour,
and infant massage
Maintain
the RFTS Aberbargoed House as an office, a resource library and
training and
meeting space for parents/carers/professionals involved with parent
education. This includes offering and
maintaining a
crèche
Consult
with parents/carers/professionals for feedback on programme
effectiveness as
well as involving them in strategic forward planning
